For instance there are some serious limitations around solid hardwood floors. For instance solid hardwood floors cannot be used directly on top of concrete which can cause them to break and crack. Likewise it should not be installed below grade for instance in basements which is a shame given the popularity of basement conversions. This all means that in some cases a family or household might want to have hardwood flooring but find that their location is not suitable for it. This of course can be highly frustrating and in such cases engineered flooring is a Godsend allowing them to still enjoy having wooden floors that are just as durable and that look just as good.
Solid hardwood flooring is also limited in another sense in that the width of the planks of wood are less varied. This then means that some properties will not be able to enjoy having planks of hardwood flooring in their property. Those that do are more prone to ‘gapping’.
