This month’s blog post is a continuation of last month’s post about frequently asked questions regarding hardwood flooring. Invision Hardwood & Décor specializes in hardwood flooring and we are dedicated to providing our customers with a high quality product and memorable service.

How Do You Acclimate Hardwood Flooring?

Acclimating your hardwood flooring is extremely important. Typically, a batch of hardwood flooring will take 5 to 7 days to acclimate. The easiest way to do this is to let the flooring sit in the room it will be installed in. However, if the room is humid, you will need to ensure that it is taken care of in order to avoid oversaturating your hardwood flooring with moisture.

If your hardwood flooring is exposed to excessive moisture, it can cause it to cup, buckle, and crack. Always make sure that you are installing hardwood flooring in a room that isn’t exposed to a lot of moisture. Cupping is caused by moisture that is trapped between the wood floor and subfloor.

How Should I Clean Hardwood Flooring?

The best way to clean your hardwood flooring is by sweeping, dry mopping, or vacuuming them regularly. Swiffer mops are a safe way to clean your floor and they will minimize damage. Avoid using wet mops as they are more than likely to cause moisture damage.

You can use commercial cleaners, but they may damage the finish on your floor. If your floors are waxed or stained, there is a chance that heavy cleaning products will damage your wax or stain, so use these types of products accordingly.
